Gender and Financial Inclusion in Rwanda

This report shows that financial inclusion among women in Rwanda is relatively high at 92 percent, and Rwanda is nearly achieving gender parity in financial inclusion. Nevertheless, there is opportunity for further growth and improvement to narrow the gender gap, especially in terms of deepening financial inclusion beyond access and moving towards a greater level of formal inclusion (particularly with regard to the uptake of banking products or services) which require:

  • Gender policy.
  • Small- and medium-enterprise development.
  • Emphasise the focus on the usage and quality of financial services.
  • Information dissemination.
  • Dedicated training/financial education program targeted at women.
  • Supporting digital financial services.
