The following is a summary of Outgrower Schemes—Enhancing Profitability, a joint technical brief by TechnoServe and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), published by IFAD in September 2011. In an effort to distill factors attributable to successful outgrower programs, IFAD commissioned a review of global experiences in developing and managing outgrower programs. The following summarizes the seven common characteristics found in outgrower schemes as well as issues to consider when evaluating these programs.
