Financial Access 2011: An Overview of the Supply-Side Data Landscape

Highlighting the importance of adequate data to enhance financial inclusion efforts
Download34 pages

This report presents the landscape of financial inclusion data, with a focus on supply-side data. It is different from the two previous reports, published by CGAP and the World Bank Group, which provided data on the state of financial inclusion. Considerable progress has been made in recent years to overcome the lack of data that has been a barrier to financial inclusion. The Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) tasked one of its sub-groups with identifying the existing financial inclusion data landscape, assessing data gaps, and developing key performance indicators. A number of new data initiatives have also emerged to offer better and more meaningful data. The report discusses:

  • Landscape of financial inclusion data, with a presentation of demand- and supply-side data sources, and a brief look at the findings from Financial Access 2010;
  • Supply-side data, with information on country-level data and how global-level data build on it;
  • Gaps in financial inclusion data and ways for stakeholders to address them;
  • Perspectives of leading experts on the importance of financial inclusion data.
