Demand, Access & Use of Financial Services: FINSCOPE II 2009 Findings

This presentation contains findings of FinScope II, a study that provides current data on access, demand and usage of financial products and services in Uganda. FinScope II is a follow-up to FinScope I, conducted in 2006.

The study is based on face-to-face interviews with a sample of 3001 respondents aged 16 years and above in 56 districts of Uganda. The presentation gives a glimpse of the economic and livelihood profile of Ugandans, and explores various aspects of the financial landscape using FinScopes strand segmentation methodology.

The study addresses different areas of financial access. They include:

  • Financial inclusion, focusing on formal and informal access to finance, products usage, sources of income and employment;
  • Savings and investment, discussing incidence and places of savings, savings in relation to sources of income and financial inclusion;
  • Credit, examining borrowing status, borrowing by sources of income, access and use of agricultural credit;
  • Insurance, focusing on incidence and usage of insurance, formal insurance products, benefits of insurance;
  • Landscape of access in 2009;
  • Incidence, frequency and sources of money transfer and remittances.
