This document provides an overview of the Microfinance and Health Protection (MAHP) initiative that Freedom from Hunger launched in partnership with MFIs from Africa, Asia and Latin America. The MAHP initiative aims to develop and test sustainable health protection innovations that can improve the lives of microfinance clients while also contributing to the MFIs' bottom line. Freedom from Hunger provides its partner MFIs with training and technical assistance to conduct market research and design innovative and sustainable service packages that address their clients' health issues through MAHP. Health protection innovations demonstrated by the MAHP initiative include:
- Health education services;
- Health financing and insurance programs;
- Links to health care providers;
- Access to health products.
