Savings Banks' Socially Responsible Activities, A Wealth of Experience

How do savings banks fulfill their social responsibilities?

This report illustrates the diversity and wide range of corporate social responsibility policies and projects launched by savings banks across the world. It is based on case studies provided by World Savings Banks Institute (WSBI) members. The report uses case studies of WSBI members to illustrate Savings Banks commitment to society. These case studies demonstrate efforts related to:

  • Aiding local economic development through partnerships with local authorities, microfinance projects and encouragement to local entrepreneurs;
  • Contributing to social inclusion through development and solidarity initiatives, support to disabled groups, women and education;
  • Improving community life by assisting in provision of basic needs, disaster recovery, community development, financial education projects and the promotion of national heritage, culture and sport.

Savings Banks innovative and inclusive approach to CSR is effective, given their success in the areas of:

  • Advancing CSR principles;
  • Conducting dialogues with stakeholders on workforce quality development, transparency and corporate governance principles;
  • Participating in national and international fora, and addressing environmental concerns;
  • Developing socially responsible services and products.
