Making Microinsurance Work for Clients

Looking at client preferences in risk management and implications for microinsurance product design

This document discusses the ways in which the providers of microinsurance can improve their accessibility to the poor, thereby improving their reach and helping the sector grow organically.

The document explains the following:

  • Various parameters based on which the accessibility of microinsurance can be improved;
  • Factors to be considered while designing the insurance product;
  • Different areas or asset classes that can be covered by microinsurance  for example life insurance, health insurance, asset protection and others;
  • Figuring out of common things between formal and informal sources of insurance so that a product mix of both can be developed to meet all the needs of the customers.

Further, the article discusses the use of informal insurance sources to develop the formal sources.
