A Study on Rural Financial Service in Paradhipi Gram Panchayat

This study was conducted in Paradipi Gram Panchayat inNayagarh district of Orissa, India. The study reflects the state of rural financial services in Orissa. It involved the following steps:

• Identification of forms of savings;
• Considerations in choosing the saving forms;
• Estimation of the amount of saving in the last one year;
• Determination of the purpose of credit.

The study proceeded:

• At individual level by:
  • Conducting probabilistic proportionate sampling;
  • Collection of data by designing an elaborate structured questionnaire;
  • Administration of the questionnaire keeping in mind the geographical spread and the income and asset segments of the poor.
• At the group level by:
  • Focus group discussions to understand the rural psyche that guides the rural financial services.
