Performance review of microfinance banks in Pakistan from 2017 to June 2020

Global Findex 2017 mentions that only 21 percent of Pakistan’s population has access to bank accounts. Based on estimates of Pakistan Microfinance Network, the penetration rate of microfinance in the country, as of 30 June 2020 is around 33.6 percent. Another way of putting this is: the 66.4 percent of the market is yet to be served. This means that formal institutions like Microfinance Banks (MFBs) have a major role to play in increasing the financial inclusion. Currently, there are 11 MFBs in Pakistan.

This publications takes into account the financial performance of 11 MFBs in Pakistan in the areas of loans, deposits, employees, branches, non-performing loans, etc. It compares the overall microfinance banks' key performance indicators (KPIs) and provides an overview of each MFB's KPIs on institutional basis.
