A Vision for Social Performance Management

Measuring social outcomes for enhancing MFI effectiveness
Download 24 pages

The paper describes how social performance management tools can contribute to changing the profile of poverty throughout the world. Progress out of Poverty Index (PPI) is an effective social performance measurement and management tool, which lends itself to performance benchmarking at the national and international levels. It tracks clients' progress out of poverty over time and provides data to help MFIs improve their products and services. Grameen Foundation aims to act as a catalyst in the development and implementation of PPI and seeks to advance social performance management in four areas:

  • Knowing your client;
  • Serving your clients;
  • Growing poverty focused microfinance;
  • Understanding the impact upon your clients.

Grameen Foundation imagines social performance results being reported alongside financial and operational data to provide social investors, raters and other third parties the information required to make a holistic evaluation of MFI performance.
