Download 180 pages

This report advances UNDP’s efforts to turn the ideas and analysis of its Growing Inclusive Markets Initiative into action through a dialogue with private sector, government and civil society. It is based on 50 case studies, writings and reviews by a network of academics from developing countries and a diverse advisory group of institutions with expertise in the private sector’s role in development. The report examines:

  • How the private sector can include the poor in businesses as consumers, employees and producers;
  • The challenge of doing businesses in markets that suffer from lack of information, infrastructure and institutions;
  • How businesses can devise inclusive business models that include the poor to create value for all.

Finally, the report makes recommendations to governments, not-for-profit organizations, public service providers, MFIs, socially-minded investors and donors to support businesses in building new and inclusive markets.
