A Guide to Gender Sensitive Microfinance

The guide was developed as a practical aid for those involved in microfinance programmes to ensure that socio-economic and gender issues are taken into account when starting or developing a microfinance programme, when designing national policies for microfinance and for disaggregating microfinance markets to find out more about clients. Practical suggestions for integrating a gender approach are outlined at three levels:

1. Through field level operations;
2. Within the structures of microfinance intermediary themselves;
3. In lobbying for macro level policy change.
