General Information

The Center for Financial Inclusion at Accion’s Africa Board Fellowship: Engages CEOs and board members from financial service providers throughout sub-Saharan Africa in peer learning and exchange through client visits, seminars and virtual dialogues, enabling them to deliver better financial services to their clients.

OECD Principles of Corporate Governance: Provide internationally recognized standards for governance as one of the 12 standards for international financial stability of the Financial Stability Board.  

For Investors

Principles for Investment in Inclusive Finance (PIIF): Subset of the UN Principles for Responsible Investment, targeted at investors in Inclusive Finance. Governance is expressly referred to in Principle 4 (Responsible Investment), though effective implementation of all seven principles requires strong governance across all players.

IFC Global Corporate Governance: Provides corporate governance publications, including training materials, toolkits, and case studies. The publications cover an array of topics, largely around board composition and management.

International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN): A global membership organization of over 500 leaders in corporate governance based in 50 countries with a mission to raise standards of corporate governance worldwide. ICGN members are largely institutional investors who collectively represent funds under management of around US$18 trillion.

For Financial Service Providers

IFC Global Corporate Governance: Provides corporate governance publications, including training materials, toolkits, and case studies. The publications cover an array of topics, largely around board composition and management.

Social Performance Task Force (SPTF) Universal Standards: A set of management standards for institutions pursuing a double bottom line. Section two of the standards calls for institutions to “ensure board, management, and employee commitment to social goals.” The standards document provides additional detail on specific standards and essential practices to ensuring commitment to the institution’s social goals.

For Microfinance Associations

SEEP Network's Toolkit for Microfinance Association Boards: Online toolkit and available for download. Provides associations with a strong foundation for putting good governance principles into practice. The toolkit offers valuable resources for developing governance trainings.
