From Commitments to Action, The UNCDF Gender and Inclusive Digital Economies “Playbook”

As governments, private sector leaders and civil society organizations make commitments to the Generation Equality Forum, FinEquity and UNCDF held a timely discussion on how we can move from commitment to action.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an outsized impact on women, deepening inequalities and slowing down or even reversing progress on gender. On the 30 June the largest gathering for gender equality in 25 years took place – the Generation Equality Forum. The event showcased commitment announcements from governments, corporations and civil society to accelerate gender equality. UNCDF, together with FinEquity, had chosen that date to launch the Inclusive Digital Economies & Gender Playbook - a key tool to help development practitioners action those commitments.

The Inclusive Digital Economies & Gender Playbook is a practical how-to guide on leveraging the market system development approach to decrease the digital and financial divide for women and girls, use technology to improve women’s economic opportunities, and to help to transform women into builders of emerging digital economies. It contains a wealth of research on the common constraints faced by women in least developed and emerging economies, and concrete examples of interventions that can address those constraints.

This interactive session introduced participants to the Playbook, showcasing how to best leverage the research and insights it contains, and highlighting the experiences of practitioners who have successfully deployed some of the interventions in the Playbook.
