Download 24 pages

This report represents the most in-depth look to date at the environment for and development of microfinance institutions within the Central Asian republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The report outlines the impact that policy choices have had on the development of the local microfinance sector, by combining an overview of the supporting legal and policy framework for microfinance with data from a broad sample of institutions. The creation of a common policy overview and set of benchmarks for microfinance in the region is hoped to further support growth in the sector and an increased exchange of information about microfinance development in Central Asia.
